Role Summary:
- This role supports the development of inquiry, literacy, and research skills across the PYP curriculum through close collaboration with teachers and the PYP Coordinator. It involves managing and developing library resources, promoting reading for pleasure, and delivering engaging learning experiences in information literacy.
We are looking for candidates for a Primary Library Specialist role to join us at SABAH.school!
Curriculum Support and Integration
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, the PYP Coordinator, and other staff to support inquiry, research, and literacy across the PYP curriculum.
- Participate in PYP meetings and collaborative planning sessions to ensure the library programme is aligned with units of inquiry and broader learning priorities.
- Design and deliver engaging learning experiences that develop students’ research, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Recommend and curate print and digital resources that enhance classroom learning and reflect student interests.
- Support the development of Approaches to Learning (ATL), with a focus on research, communication, thinking, and self-management skills.
Library Management
- Manage the library’s physical and digital resources, including selection, acquisition, cataloguing, and organisation of materials.
- Establish and maintain effective systems for borrowing, circulation, and resource use.
- Maintain a welcoming, organised, and purposeful library environment that promotes reading, inquiry, and student engagement.
- Regularly review the collection to ensure it remains relevant, inclusive, and aligned with curriculum needs.
Information Literacy and Digital Citizenship
- Teach students how to effectively, responsibly, and ethically locate, evaluate, and use information.
- Support the development of age-appropriate research skills and safe, respectful online behaviour.
- Promote digital citizenship through structured teaching, guidance, and ongoing reinforcement.
Reading and Literacy Promotion
- Foster a welcoming library culture that encourages reading for pleasure and lifelong literacy.
- Utilise resources such as Scholastic subscriptions to enhance reading engagement and access to high-quality literature.
- Plan and lead programmes and events that promote reading, storytelling, and curiosity.
- Lead the organisation and delivery of the school’s Book Week celebrations.
- Develop and facilitate library clubs and extracurricular activities linked to reading, creativity, and student interests.
- Create seasonal and thematic displays aligned with school events, celebrations, and priorities.
- Plan and deliver targeted literacy intervention sessions for individuals and small groups.
Collaboration and Community Engagement
- Collaborate with colleagues, parents, and the wider school community to promote reading and highlight the role of the library in school life.
- Work closely with the EdTech Leader to support the meaningful integration of digital tools and multimodal learning resources.
- Contribute to whole-school events and initiatives where the library can enhance learning and engagement.
Professional Growth and Reflection
- Engage in continuous professional learning in library science, children’s literature, educational technology, information literacy, and IB-aligned pedagogy.
- Reflect on the effectiveness of library programmes, services, and resources in supporting student learning outcomes.
- Use feedback, observation, and data to continuously improve library provision and practice.
Tələblər
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, or a related field.
- Excellent command of spoken and written English, with the ability to communicate effectively across diverse audiences.
- Proven teaching experience in a PYP school and/or school library environment.
- Strong expertise in information literacy, digital citizenship, children’s literature, and the integration of educational technologies to enhance learning.
- Highly developed communication, collaboration, and organizational skills, with the ability to work effectively within a team.
- Demonstrated commitment to fostering a culture of reading, inquiry-based learning, creativity, and lifelong learning.
- Ability to build positive, respectful relationships with students while maintaining a structured, engaging, and well-managed learning environment.
